Lossless Library

A self-hosted FLAC library played through Plexamp, where the engineering problem is not storage or playback but keeping thousands of files tagged, filed and findable for the long haul.

PROBLEM

Streaming catalogues change under you. Albums vanish, get remastered into something else, or come back with a different tracklist. A library you own does not, but only if it stays organised, and a self-hosted library rots in exactly one place: the metadata.

HYPOTHESIS

Storage and playback are solved. Plex with hardware transcode and Plexamp on the phone already beat any streaming app for a collection you own. The whole project is the pipeline that lands every album already tagged, in the right folder, under the right artist, so the library never needs a cleanup weekend.

ARCHITECTURE

The Plex container on the Proxmox node serves the library from the mergerfs pool, with SnapRAID parity underneath. Plexamp on phone and desktop is the player. The work in progress is the filing side: one canonical artist list, consistent album-artist tags, and a layout that a person and Plex both read the same way.

RESULT

Playback is done and has been for a while. The filing pipeline is the open half, starting from an audit of the current artist list.
